A failure to attract BMW and Mercedes buyers has meant the Phaeton will be dropped from the German firm"s US line-up next year, leaving it to concentrate on Golf variants such as the Eos cabrio and a 4x4 crossover.
However, the Phaeton will remain on sale in Europe, and will be revised in the next few years with a fresh look and engine range. It"s hoped the changes will address the car"s relatively rarity here, too. Last year, VW UK sold only 213 Phaetons - a tenth of the number of Mercedes S-Class models.
