After claiming that UK buyers would get only the normally aspirated 1.5 and 2.0-litre models at the launch in September, the Japanese manufacturer has had a change of heart.

Using a 227bhp version of the 2.5-litre boxer engine, the 4WD hatch will tide the firm over until the even hotter STi arrives in the spring. The WRX meets European crash and emissions rules, and will be an official UK car, not a grey import. Prices have yet to be confirmed, although it’s expected to cost ÷£19,995.
