As well as revealing...

As well as revealing the front and rear, the shots give a taste of the cabin. The 8C was first seen at 2003"s Frankfurt Motor Show, where it featured a 4.2-litre Maserati V8 with around 450bhp. The roadgoing car will have an all-new Maserati V8, with at least 400bhp.

Described as the ultimate Alfa, the 8C will be the firm"s performance flagship, sitting alongside the Brera and 159 at dealers across Europe. Initially, production will be limited to about 500 examples, although the maker admits Coupé and Spider versions will be built to demand. Performance figures are still top secret, but the car is aimed at the Ferrari F430 and Porsche"s 911 - and this suggests 0-60mph in at least five seconds and a 185mph top speed.

However, the big shock will be the price, which is likely to be set at close to ÷£100,000. This makes the newcomer one of the most expensive and exclusive Alfas ever. An insider said: "The 8C is aimed at our most dedicated fans."
