The pair have re-signed...

The pair have re-signed for 2008 after being heaped with praise by team boss Nick Fry for the way they have coped with the awful RA107 car. But once again, they had a disappointing race. Button crashed early on and Barrichello finished 11th.

As well as sprinting...

As well as sprinting from 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds and hitting a 155mph top speed, it"s going to be a treat for occupants" ears - with the electric roof folded away, the sound of the direct-injection V8 at its 8,000rpm maximum should mean an even more vivid experience.

The imposing bodykit, square grille outlined in chrome and stylish aluminium alloy wheels give the RS4 Cabriolet a similar mean look to the four-door. And under the surface, it uses an identical quattro drivetrain, with power split 40:60 in favour of the rear wheels, a two-stage traction control system, plus suspension that"s been lowered 30mm compared to that on the regular A4.

Although the Cabriolet is slightly heavier than the saloon, weight-saving measures and re-tuning of the springs and dampers should mean the handling is as responsive and agile.

The drop-top also gets the four-door"s steering wheel-mounted Sport button - which, once pressed, sharpens the throttle and stiffens the suspension further thanks to Audi"s Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) system. Identical uprated brake discs are fitted all-round, with the fronts measuring 365mm and the rears 324mm.

Inside, sports seats replace the saloon"s buckets, but the flat-bottomed steering wheel and leather trim remain. The cloth hood is the same as on regular Cabriolets, and can be raised or lowered in 21 seconds at up to 20mph. The RS4 drop-top arrives in the summer, priced around ÷£55,000, alongside a ÷£51,500 Avant.
