Ford is building a gadget that understands human speech so that drivers can ask their sat-nav: "How do I get to Buckingham Palace?" and receive turn-by-turn directions en route. The device, being perfected at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US, will also allow a driver to tell the radio to tune in to a favourite station.

The 32 pages are filled with snippets of information about Britain’s cabs, from the horse-drawn variety to the familiar TX4 seen on our roads today. The layout is cluttered, but somehow it seems to suit the collection of predominantly black and white pictures and short pieces. Anything you want to know about taxis is likely to be featured in here. KA
