British firm Land Rover is considering building the Freelander in China to try and cash in on the growing demand for 4x4s in the Far East. The firm is hoping to sell 1,000 off-roaders in the country this year, but managing director Matthew Taylor said: "I can see us climbing to 20,000 sales a year if we assemble Freelanders in China."

Wipe-out! That"s what could happen to the Mercedes A-Class and Vaneo mini-MPV. The company is recalling all cars built in the 12 months before April 2003, because the windscreen wipers could come off. "In the worst case scenario, cracks in the recess for the plastic covers of the wiper arms can cause them to become detached," said a Mercedes spokesman.

Bentley has confirmed it"s ruled out using the VW Group"s W16 engine in the Arnage or any other model in the foreseeable future. The Crewe firm says it will stick with V8 technology instead. Bosses have also revealed an Arnage style of vehicle will continue in the line-up, to complement the Continental GT and the forthcoming saloon.
