Drivers from Nottingham...
Drivers from Nottingham have the highest number of motoring convictions in the UK. The city came top in the latest research into the countryò€™s biggest hotspots for driver offences.
After our research into which police forces are harshest to motorists (Issue 1,094), we quizzed insurance website www.moneysupermarket.com to find the danger zones for each type of driving offence.
Of the motorists living in the NG1 postcode who looked on the site in the past year, a huge 24,685 had convictions. The websiteò€™s 2.74 million searches placed central Leeds second and Wakefield, W Yorks, third. The site broke down its results by age, sex and conviction, and men aged 17-21 in Milngavie, Glasgow were the worst speeders ò€“ nearly 55 per cent of those from the area who searched the site were convicted of breaking the limit in a 30mph zone.
Men aged 31-40 living in Swindon, Wilts, were second, at 52 per cent, and central Sheffield men of the same age were third. Young male drivers aged up to 21 in Rochester, Kent, were the biggest mobile phone offenders.
Interestingly, there were barely any women in the league tables, and Steve Sweeney ò€“ moneysupermarket.comò€™s head of motor cover ò€“ said: ò€œIt shows why the average motor insurance premium for a male driver is Ò£386 more than for a female.ò€
