Safety at roadworks...
Safety at roadworks could be improved thanks to a clever new invention. Student Paul Scrase of Brunel University, London, came up with the idea of clipping illuminated arrows or chevrons to the top of road cones. The creation won the Reliance Security Group"s prize for design, an annual safety product competition, and scooped Paul a í‚á£2,000 prize. David Campbell, from the Road Maintenance Association, said: "Any invention designed to keep traffic on the correct side of roadworks sounds good. Too many incidents occur with drivers being confused by coned areas."
Four-door coupés...
Four-door coupés are all the rage, but Skoda is trying to set a new trend for saloon-hatchbacks!
The firm has revealed the new Superb will feature the world’s first ‘Twindoor’ boot opening system. Press a button on the key fob and a standard saloon trunk pops up. But flick a switch and the whole rear screen lifts up just like a hatch!
Skoda has also released the first pictures of the interior. The flagship gets an upmarket look, with a touch-screen multimedia interface and an all-new steering wheel. Legroom is class-leading throughout.
But if the space and novel boot set-up aren’t quite practical enough for you, a new Superb estate is also under development. It should be on sale a year after the saloon, which hits UK showrooms in September.
