It"s mated to three electric motors, and the maker claims 2.0-litre performance with 1.0-litre economy and 70mpg as a result.

It"s the brainchild of engineers at PSA Peugeot Citroen, and is currently on trial in a specially equipped car. To start, the driver presses a "P" button on the dash. The system then scans either side of the road for likely bays, as the vehicle cruises along at up to 15mph. A dashboard alarm then announces a space has been found and checks it"s free from obstacles, including pedestrians, using sensors in the bumpers.
