The first production Ford GT to be imported from the US will head straight for the museum - joining the firm"s UK-based Heritage Collection. Along with two original GT40s owned by the blue oval, the car could eventually form the centrepiece of a new visitor centre housing the manufacturer"s 85 historic vehicles. No location or opening date has yet been finalised.

Hand gestures may soon replace buttons and switches in cars. Scientists at Friedrich-Alexander University in Germany have invented software so motorists won"t have to touch any controls at all. A dashboard unit tracks the driver"s hands, so a gesture is all that"s needed to change the air-con or switch on the radio.

Meanwhile, bosses at Pirelli are dismayed with reports that the tyre firm"s calendar is being sold on Internet auction sites by workers at its Carlisle plant. Some copies of the calendar, which features famous models and celebrities, have fetched н‚бЈ310. The 35,000 worldwide print run is for staff, suppliers and VIPs only. A Pirelli spokesman said: "We"re not at all happy about this."
