In our rush to get from A to B, it’s easy to miss the fantastic heritage sites spread around the UK. This clever sat-nav programme aims to redress the balance – and draw your attention to the history that surrounds us.

Roadtour adds 600 historical sites in England, Scot÷land, Wales and Northern Ireland to the existing points of interest on your portable navigation unit. You won’t even have to search for them, as they pop up automatically with a commentary – lasting around 90 seconds – plus at least one image, and details such as opening times and prices.

The software works with various Garmin units and all Windows Mobile-powered devices, but no TomToms for now. It requires up to 400Mb of free memory, depending on the version selected, and can either be downloaded or supplied on a CD-ROM or SD card (which also work with PC and Mac computers). An annual update costs ÷£5.
