The current version...
The current version has never been sold in Britain, but is a massive hit across Europe. It isn"t a big money-spinner for Renault, because of the slim profit margins on small cars, but bosses hope to shift the replacement up a segment, so they will be able to charge a premium. The Twingo will still serve as an entry-level car in some countries, but would be marketed as a trendy fashion accessory in others, which would include the UK.
It uses a portable gas...
It uses a portable gas heater to melt the tarmac around potholes to 215 degrees Celsius in less than eight minutes, and can fix damaged highways for a fraction of the cost of current methods. What"s more, the technology recycles existing road materials.
Fife-based Nu-Phalt Scotland aims to roll out the system across the UK by the end of the year. "We melt the road round the hole to fill in the damage, so there is no waste and very little disruption to traffic," said boss Gary Gibson.
