The top-of-the-range engine was introduced to the family car line-up in 1994, and Volvo teamed up with Tom Walkinshaw Racing to enter an estate version in the British Touring Car Championship. It didn’t win, but it sure raised awareness of the pace of the turbo flagship.

Lowered suspension and custom?ised livery, along with chrome Ducati Corse logos below the indicators and on the tailgate, provide the 147 with a suitably aggressive stance. Classic Ducati cues include red highlights on the edging of the 18-inch alloys, as well as on the brake calipers, seat stitching, steering wheel, gearlever and handbrake. The special 147 fea?tures the new 170bhp 1.9-litre JTDM diesel, giving 0-60mph in eight seconds, and is on sale here in April.
