Hear the Aussie growl!...

Hear the Aussie growl! In the May 16 issue of Auto Express, we’re putting Vauxhall’s new VXR8 through its paces. The V8-powered four-door from down-under is sure to set pulses racing, but if you can’t wait to experience what it’s got to offer have a listen to this! It"s the brainchild...

It"s the brainchild of engineers at PSA Peugeot Citroen, and is currently on trial in a specially equipped car. To start, the driver presses a "P" button on the dash. The system then scans either side of the road for likely bays, as the vehicle cruises along at up to 15mph. A dashboard alarm then announces a space has been found and checks it"s free from obstacles, including pedestrians, using sensors in the bumpers.

The driver presses Auto Park to start the manoeuvre. A voice instructs him to select reverse, and then he squeezes the accelerator while the steering wheel turns itself, sliding back into the bay. And that"s it! "The idea is to use City Park on commuter cars, but the technology is expensive and we"ve still got a long way to go to make it affordable," said innovation chief Eric Bonhoure. He believes the system will be on production cars from the two French firms in five years.
