Kia has planted a bigger diesel in its Cee’d. The Korean company is making the 2.0-litre CRDi oil-burner from the Pro_cee’d Sport available across its family car line-up.

"Twelve Feet Wide" is a new campaign to boost the width of main UK motorways in a bid to cut congestion. It"s been launched by a conglomerate of powerful transport organisations - including the AA and RAC - who reckon the move would increase safe capacity by a third. They want the Government to support road-widening schemes in its long-term plans. Targeted routes include the M1, M4, M6, M25 and M62.

The second Touareg...

The second Touareg, which at first glance looks like another convertible SUV, was on component firm Webasto"s stand. However, its full length red canvas top is in fact a fitted sunshade which slides back electrically to reveal panoramic glass underneath. Called the Hattrick, the vehicle also includes a three-way opening tailgate.

Mobile phones started the "pay as you go" craze, and there"s now a similar scheme for car insurance. Norwich Union"s policy is for 18-21-year-olds, and uses an in-car black box to monitor vehicle use. With on and off-peak hours, daylight journeys are cheaper than those made after 11pm - when young drivers are most at risk.
