Oval lights and the...

Oval lights and the pronounced ridge down the centre of the bonnet mark a departure from the sharp lines of Renault"s current styling philosophy. But they certainly add character and drama to the new Laguna"s nose. Another unique feature is the carefully sculpted front wings, which sport a curved line sitting above the rest of the newcomer"s waistline.

The real showpiece...

The real showpiece, however, is the full-size bed, which runs the length of the car. And to create extra space, the EDAG comes with an electrically operated roof, which can be raised. Unlike many supercars, there"s plenty of storage space, as the silver side pods can be removed and filled with luggage.

Our spies have lifted...

Our spies have lifted the lid on Mercedes-McLarenò€™s most sensational cabrio to date. The SLR is fast approaching the end of its seven-year lifespan and the Anglo-German partnership has no intention of letting the controversial supercar drive off quietly into the sunset.

Our spies snapped this...

Our spies snapped this disguised prototype on test this week in Germany. And that"s somewhat bizarre, as the machine shown is a Nissan Sentra - which is already on sale in the US.

Insiders have told us this car is a secret model being evaluated by the company"s European engineers. If it makes the grade, the new hatchback could replace the ageing Primera in the UK as early as next year.

Based on Nissan"s C platform, the Sentra is sold in the US with a 135bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine. But to be a success in Europe, it also needs diesel power. Both six-speed manual and hi-tech CVT gearboxes will be available, while all versions are front-wheel drive.

The European testing of this model shows the firm"s commitment to so-called global cars. These are variants which are sold across the world rather than being specific to one particular continent, allowing lower development costs and higher profits.

If the Sentra is given the green light, it will go on sale alongside a smaller hatchback, which is also a global model. Called the Versa, the Ford Focus rival is expected to make its debut in the UK late this year, and will replace Nissan"s Almera.
