The three-door Alfa hatchback will share its underpinnings with Fiat"s Grande Punto. And engineers are currently testing a prototype fitted with a 197bhp petrol engine and limited-slip differential, which could form the basis of a hot GTA variant. The newcomer, known internally as the Racer, looks set to revive the brand"s Junior tag from the Sixties and Seventies. Scotland"s roads are busier than ever, yet they"ve seen the lowest number of road accidents and deaths for half a century. The Scottish Executive"s transport figures show there were 2.4 million vehicles in 2004, up three per cent on 2003. Fatalities were down to 307, with nearly 18,000 injuries.
