The Toyota Avensis Verso...

The Toyota Avensis Verso has been named as the country’s most dependable used car. The British-built MPV beat a host of rivals to clinch the top spot, finishing ahead of highly regarded models such as the Honda Jazz in a survey by leading personal warranty provider, Warranty Direct.

Using claims data provided by the customers of the company based in Reading, Berkshire, the findings saw the Avensis win the MPV category, while the Jazz took victory in the supermini class.

Indeed, there were some excellent scores for Japanese makers, with other class wins in the small family hatch sector (Honda Civic) and the 4x4 division (Nissan X-Trail). However, Ford’s Mondeo sprung a surprise by taking top spot in the family car group, fending off the more expensive Honda Accord in the standings.

Audi’s A4 beat the Lexus IS200 to the win in the compact executive class, while BMW took top spot in two categories: the convertible class with the Z3 and the executive sector with the 5-Series. The recently replaced Jaguar S-Type took an impressive second spot in the latter class. “Japanese cars have again shown them- selves to be top of the tree when it comes to buying a used car,” said Warranty Direct’s managing director, Duncan McClure Fisher. “Not only do they consistently prove to be the most reliable cars on the road, but they clearly tick all the right boxes when it comes to appealing to the buying public.”
