"Twelve Feet Wide" is a new campaign to boost the width of main UK motorways in a bid to cut congestion. It"s been launched by a conglomerate of powerful transport organisations - including the AA and RAC - who reckon the move would increase safe capacity by a third. They want the Government to support road-widening schemes in its long-term plans. Targeted routes include the M1, M4, M6, M25 and M62.

The breakdown group has just revealed its most unusual call-outs - and animals have caused many of the bizarre problems.
One motorist reported strange noises coming from underneath his car. Closer inspection revealed that a badger had become trapped between the body and the exhaust.
Another patrol told of an owner driven nuts by his engine"s lack of power. When the bonnet was lifted, it was found that a squirrel had stored its food in the air intake. And one member had to have the entire dashboard of their vehicle removed - to free their pet snake!
