The insurance company polled 524 drivers who were asked to identify 12 common road signs which included "no stopping", "road works" and "uneven roads". Some 77% were unable to identify correctly more than six of the signs. None of the drivers surveyed could identify all 12 signs correctly.
Notably the only sign with 100% of drivers" recognition was the speed camera. The highly visual road works signs were also well recognised with 96% of motorists correctly identifying the sign.
Worryingly, the signs drivers found hardest to name were those warning of hazardous driving conditions. These signs included cautions for slippery road surfaces, (correctly identified by 42% of drivers), uneven road surfaces (23%) and side winds (8%).
