There are thousands...

There are thousands of pubs across the UK, and finding a decent one with a great atmosphere and good food can be tricky.

About a year ago, after...

About a year ago, after plonking the four tyres of a 4x4 inside a legal bay at the side of the road, I put enough coins in the pay and display machine to stay for two hours. I did my bit. A privatised parking attendant in Gestapo-like uniform did not. Fifteen minutes before expiry time, a penalty charge notice was wrongly slapped on my screen. I desperately needed a witness to vouch for the fact the fine had been issued prematurely and unfairly. A passing uniformed cop obliged, confirming on a scrap of paper that my car had not overstayed its welcome. Also, he made it clear the authorities were wrong in their clumsy attempt to fine me.

Honda has developed...

Honda has developed a new safety system which keeps a car in its lane by controlling the steering. Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) uses on-board cameras to spot if a vehicle is wandering off line. The system works in conjunction with adaptive cruise control, which stops tailgating, and will be available from 2006.

The sporty VW Scirocco...

The sporty VW Scirocco has finally broken cover. These leaked pictures reveal the look of the German firm"s new showroom-ready coupe days before its official Geneva Motor Show debut.

As you can see, the newcomer is heavily influenced by the IROC concept car that first appeared at the 2006 Paris expo. The nose has been toned down, losing the large trapezoidal grille, while the distinctive rectangular exhausts have been replaced by a more conventional twin set-up.

However, the rest of the exterior is carried over largely unchanged, complete with the muscular shoulder line, shallow side window profile and low sweeping panoramic glass roof.

Set to use Golf mechanicals, the Scirocco should be as good to drive as it is to look at. No information has yet been released, but expect to see the 197bhp 2.0-litre turbo from the GTI and the powerful 3.2-litre V6. Diesel fans are likely to be offered a version of the firm"s new common-rail oil-burner.

Full details of the exciting new model will be released when company bosses unveil the car at next week"s Geneva show. Check out www.autoexpress.co.uk over the coming days for the latest updates.
