I know some readers have concerns about possible insurance problems (see letter of the week, opposite), but for í‚á£1,000, the driver and front-seat passengers get a huge, unique, curvaceous and airy glass expanse from the edge of the bonnet over their heads and into the roof. In the nicest possible way, it"s abnormal.

The system is the brainchild...

The system is the brainchild of Audatex, a firm based in Reading, Berks, which provides computer software for the insurance industry. A leading insurer has already signed up to the initiative, known as AudaTrack, and is expected to go live across its repairer network this month. A spokeswoman for Audatex told us: "We are in talks with other insurers and expect the system to be used across the industry soon."
