The trashy truth was exposed in a study by car care company Comma. It revealed that 28 per cent of the drivers questioned admitted they hadn"t cleaned inside their vehicle for more than six months. Typically, they hoard old parking tickets, confectionery wrappers, empty bottles and discarded crisp packets. None of the women questioned gave their motor"s cabin a weekly clean, while more than a third confessed that they had never tackled the job.

The most common excuse offered by the litterbugs was that "no one can see" the car"s interior, while one in five believed the inside doesn"t get as dirty as the exterior. However, according to Comma, more than 500 colonies of germs and moulds can inhabit the average motor.
