They once battled it...
They once battled it out over the ownership of MG Rover, but Chinese car giants Shanghai Automotive Industrial Corporation (SAIC) and Nanjing Automotive Corporation have now joined forces.
The two-seater"s first...
The two-seater"s first starring role was in the 1968 movie The Thomas Crown Affair, where - painted deep red - it was driven by McQueen. The car-mad actor loved the 155mph machine so much, he ordered one for himself. Now pale yellow, the 325bhp 3.3-litre classic was the headline seller at the Pebble Beach event in California.
It was purchased by a private American collector - yet auctioneer David Gooding said: "This machine was the first of only 10 built, one of just two with light alloy bodies, and of course was driven on screen by Steve McQueen. It"s a world record auction price for the model - but I"m frankly surprised it didn"t fetch more."
