Things are hotting up...

Things are hotting up at Chevrolet! This is the Aveo RS ò€“ a striking supermini concept car that will make its debut at the Detroit Motor Show next week.

Giving us our first glimpse at the all-new Aveo, and also our first look at an upcoming hot hatch which will pave the way for sporty versions of the Spark too, the new five-door car will go on sale in the UK in 2011 priced from around Ò£10,000.

Bigger than the ougoing model, it"s also more stylish with a striking nose that mixes Chevrolet"s trademark grille with projector-style headlights. Slashes in the bodywork, angular C-pillars and a rising waistline help give it a sporty stance.

This hot hatch RS version gets a muscular bodykit with mesh grilles, additional air intakes, 19-inch alloy wheels, central exhaust pipes and a roof spoiler. Power comes from a 136bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine hooked up to a six-speed manual gearbox.

The show car also gets a special engine cover in graphite silver with a brushed aluminium insert, while the coolant and power steering fluid fill caps are rimmed in ice blue. The brake calipers are also coloured bright blue, complelementing the Boracay Blue paintwork.

Inside, the cabin is clearly inspired by fellow GM models like the Vauxhall Astra and Insignia with a prominent centre console. For the show car, the exterior paintwork is carried over in the stitching across the instrument panel, front and rear door insert, steering wheel rim, gear shift gaiter and even the floor mats. There"s also ice-blue backlighting on the stereo display.

Expect to see the production version at a major European motor show later this year.

Meanwhile, Chevrolet has revealed it will also display a more production-ready version of its Orlando large SUV concept. In othe General Motors news, Jeep will show off the Liberty Renegade and Wrangler Isander special editions in Detroit, while Chrysler will have a revised 300C on its stand alongside the first models with partner Fiat"s ultra-efficient 1.4-litre Multiair engine.
