This month"s New York Motor Show sees the international debut of a new, long-wheelbase version of Chrysler"s executive bruiser. Engineers have added an extra six inches to the 300C"s already sizeable frame, to create a Jaguar XJ, Mercedes S-Class and Audi A8-rivalling amount of interior space.
Occupants will find an additional 117cm in which to stretch out, and 288 more litres of space overall. Both saloon and estate versions are available, and will also be offered with bespoke options. Buyers can choose special kit such as lighted rear writing tables, 12-volt power points for laptops, footrests, custom paint and pinstriping.
Despite the increase in size, engine options remain unchanged for the longer 300C. Estates will get the 249bhp 3.5-litre V6, and saloons the 340bhp 5.7 V8 HEMI. The larger of the two features a Multi-Displacement System (MDS), which reduces the number of operating valves from eight to four when maximum muscle isn"t required.
A spokesman said: "There are several special features that will appeal to the limo industry and retail customers alike." The model is due to be launched in the US this autumn, but there are no plans yet to bring it to Britain, although UK officials refuse to rule it out. Prices will increase over the regular-sized car"s.
