Soon after the Z4 M...

Soon after the Z4 M Roadster goes on sale, it will be joined by a hot coup탩 version... or at least that"s the plan. Our spy spotted the priceless prototype, pictured in this week"s Auto Express, lapping the Níƒá¼rburgring on a trailer! The only explanation can be that the test car had broken down.

The Spirit of Ecstasy...

While the influence...

While the influence of the legendary model is obvious in the car"s bulbous styling, the chopped-down roof, flatter bumpers and planed-off wheelarches are clear signals that VW is aiming for a more macho image with the next Bug. The newcomer has been designed from the ground up as a road- ready production car - as was the Concept 1, which went on to become the current Beetle after its show debut 10 years ago. Based on the Cabriolet, the Ragster (the name is a fusion of rag-top and speedster) features a strengthened body with high-tensile aluminium beams to add greater rigidity.

Want proof that American...

Want proof that American luxury cars can be small too? Well "C" for yourself! This is the Lincoln C concept, a surprise show star at Detroit from a company that"s traditionally been associated with enormous limousines.

Based on a stretched Ford Focus platform, the Lincoln C has been penned by ex-Volvo designer Peter Horbury with the aim of convincing the American public that luxury cars can be compact too ò€“ and it could be a real rival to the MINI and the Audi A1.

Stand-out features are the suicide-style rear doors, large glass areas and pillarless windows. Thanks to a platform that"s 100mm wider than that of a regular Focus, the result is a very spacious cabin. Up front are large digital "infotainment" displays while seats that are raised from the floor and light colours help to create a very airy environment.

Under the bonnet is a 1.6-litre twin-turbocharged four cylinder engine from parent company Ford"s new EcoBoost range of direct injection units. The sophisticated powerplant produces 180bhp. Expect to see it in future European Ford models such as the Focus and Mondeo.
