The Champ Car circus...

The Champ Car circus is rolling into Europe. For the first time since 2003, America’s single-seater series is travelling across the pond. Sadly for us Brits, it won’t be returning to Brands Hatch in Kent. Instead, the two European rounds will be at the former grand prix circuit of Zolder in Belgium on 26 Aug-ust and Assen in the neighbouring Nether-lands the following weekend.

Want to know what Renault’s...

Want to know what Renault’s first SUV will look like? Well, it will be virtually identical to this newly un-÷veiled off-roader. It’s the Samsung QM5, which goes sale in Europe next year as the Renault Koleos.

Our spy photographers tracked development of the SUV, capturing a host of test mules and prototypes being put through their paces. But these official images leave nothing to the imagination – when it hits UK showrooms, the Koleos will be largely unchanged from what you see here.

There will be a new grille, lights and revised badging. However, the Renault will retain the QM5’s five-seat layout, raised ride height and chunky proportions. It will also share the Samsung’s split tailgate. The upper section lifts like a conventional hatchback, while the lower portion folds to provide a low load height. Inside, there is familiar Renault switchgear on the centre console, while the QM5’s stylish dashboard will be carried over. Integrated sat-nav, keyless entry and a panoramic sunroof will be optional extras.

Under the bonnet, engine options will include an economical 2.0-litre dCi diesel unit, although the Sam÷sung’s 2.5-litre petrol powerplant is unlikely to reach UK showrooms. To boost off-road ability, the Koleos will be fitted with a Land Rover-style hill descent control function and switchable four-wheel drive. It will also have an electronic parking brake on the centre console to save space, along with flat-folding rear seats and a total of six airbags.

The production Koleos makes its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, with UK sales beginning in summer. Although prices have yet to be confirmed, they are expec÷ted to start at around ÷£19,000.
