Wax on, wax off –...

Wax on, wax off – but not straight away! When you polish your car, you want it to last weeks, so endurance is always key to any product we test.

When Collinite introduced its Super Sapphire Detergent Proof Auto Wax, we were keen to see how it fared against the current top performers.

Our first problem, though, was that we needed a clean microfibre cloth with which to apply the Collinite. It’s another expense – and at this price, we would expect one to be included.

Still, the wax was easy to apply. And once we’d done that, we monitored the coating it left over the course of eight weeks. For comparison, we tried it alongside Turtle Wax’s Platinum Series Protective Extra Gloss, which was named Best Polish in the Auto Express Product Honours 2007.

The Collinite, which has abrasives in the formula, lifted off some grime straight away, although Turtle Wax does suggest a pre-treatment on tired paint for its sealant. From then on, the Plat-inum Series had the edge, bead-ing water faster.

To its credit, the Collinite was still working at the end of the test. But at double the cost of our champ, it’s pricey.
